Founded by Barossa locals, the Roocke family and now under the ownership of Jamie Cooper and Michael Chard, Nuriootpa Traders is expanding its capabilities while maintaining the commitment to reliability and service that has defined the business for decades.
Since taking ownership in 2018, Jamie and Michael have overseen significant growth, modernising operations, investing in cutting-edge transport technology, and building a larger, more flexible fleet to meet evolving industry demands.

A LEGACY OF GROWTH & EXPANSION
Nuriootpa Traders was founded in 1976 by Denise and Jim Roocke with their son Kym, starting as a small transport business delivering fresh fruit and vegetables from the Adelaide East End Markets to businesses and restaurants across the Barossa Valley. As the business grew, their two other children, Teresa and Nigel, joined the company. Together, the Roocke family expanded operations beyond produce transport to include general freight, grocery distribution, storage and wine cartage.
With increasing demand for reliable transport services, Nuriootpa Traders became a critical part of the South Australian wine industry, handling the distribution of bottles and packaged wine between Adelaide, Gawler, and major bottling plants in the Barossa and McLaren Vale. The business built a strong reputation for reliability and efficiency, growing to a fleet of 26 trucks and cementing its place as a key logistics provider in the region.
After more than four decades at the helm, the Roocke family transitioned the business to new ownership in January, 2018. Jamie Cooper and Michael Chard took over with a fresh perspective and a strong focus on growth, technology, and expanding the company’s capabilities. Since then, they have introduced new logistics solutions, expanded the fleet, and positioned Nuriootpa Traders for the future. The next stage of growth is well underway, with a new depot and warehousing facility that opened in early 2025.
